Flight - Poem by Derrick Hubert Schnabel

how search a vast and devastated plain
for that now hidden which may explain
a bipolar urge to destroy
it’s to hate even enjoy
a love deeply wanted
to cold hate transformed
physical pain
sad refrain
new rule
each stumbling thorn-pierced step is agony
pain to be the lasting legacy
of one lost in contemplation
seeking his own destruction
hemmed in though no fences
flames his defenses
and prison too
wrongs accrue
in night
