Fog 2 Poem by Barry Middleton

Fog 2

when fog mutes the forest
with shades of gray

the sun is dimmed
trees drip with morning dew

forest sounds are muffled
and distant

then I am most aware
how ancient is the land

I think of the world
before time began

tyrannosaur and mastodon
passed this way

Paleolithic man
camped along this stream

a war was fought here
a victory won

I retreat into this fog
here I feel at home

death is not defeat
the forest endures
