For The Victims Of The Coronavirus Outbreak (Aka Covid-19) Poem by Kenneth Maswabi

For The Victims Of The Coronavirus Outbreak (Aka Covid-19)

Today I have gathered all my tears
I want to drop them one by one onto the ground
In remembrance of the lives that were taken
It's not an act of defeat or fear
It's an act of sorrow and love
I cry for you dear brothers and sisters
Your departure is a reminder
To all of humanity
Wealthy and rich
Not so rich and middle class
Not so poor and the poor
We are all one people
Separated by a thin veil of materialism
Let us remember this day
And let us know the value of human life
Whatever we do in our private lives
Affect all of us
Whenever we feel greedy
Let's remember the poor
Foraging for food in unwanted places
Eating all sorts of forbidden foods
Not because it's fun
But because they are hungry
Humanity is one gigantic organism
Very fragile and yet very strong
As long as we stick together
We are a formidable force
And the moment we separate ourselves from each other
Either because of our egos
Or the man-made material needs
We are doomed
COVID-19 is teaching us new lessons
Social distancing is now a form of public health policy
We are as poor (in spirit)as the poorest member of the human race
May your souls rest in eternal peace
