I have nothing for you
During this New Year
No bouquets of flowers
At the door to spread
Their fragrance and no
Petals to be strewn on
Your path. There is no
Sweet songs of birds to
Lull you in to sleep or
No stream to draw you
To its banks with its
Placid water and lilting
Flow. I have nothing for
You to welcome you in
This New Year. The tall
Mango tree in my yard
Is lying dead like a huge
Python killed in heat.
This year will flow on
Like the previous one.
Hope is dead in our eyes.
We can only offer false
Promise that soon peace
Will be there all around.
