Forbidden Love Poem by Pen Anthony

Forbidden Love

Rating: 4.5

Swallowed in thought,
she didn't notice him walk up to her.
A figure stood in front of her.
Before she could look up, he spoke.
The sound of his voice unmistakable.

She couldn't help but stare at how much he had changed.
The last time she had seen him, he had had a feeble attempt at a beard.
Now it had consumed half of his face.
She had for the better part of the minute stared, without uttering a word.

She looked into his eyes and saw it all and instantly turned her face away.
Suddenly overwhelmed by emotions.
What could she possibly say to him.
He was such a fine man.
Not that he wasn't fine before, but he was a boy then, those many years ago.

She had broken his heart, he'd told her so.
But she hadn't told him that in doing so, she broke her own heart as well.
She had never moved on, because no man after him had been able to measure up. He'd loved her like she'd never been loved before.
And she knew she'd never get that again.

She'd left him a note saying goodbye.
She could never accept the fact that she'd found her love in a boy 11years her junior.
It would never sit well with her.
And she'd left.
Never thinking she could possibly run into him ever again.
