Fountain Pen - Poem by Dilantha Gunawardana

Her descent to earth was sculpted in an Egyptian manger
As a transcending love blossomed between a goddess and a stranger
As papyrus scrolls kissed the pouts of her virgin quill
She pirouetted like a ballerina as the heart enraptures in thrill
Her empyrean stalk entwined in the fabric of a feather
As she scripts destinies of the heart from the palm's tether
Though no longer avian in her long-winding heritage
She struts her magic from her hollow cylindrical stage
The cartridge a persistent narrator yet the nib a brazen liberator
As tides of ink cascade to the call of the hollow crater
She is nimble like an antelope, yet graceful like a swan
The royal sorceress of the lexicon, as histories are born
She is gate-keeper to the revolutions of time and space
As pilgrims trek frontiers for bohemians to grace
She is mightier than the gun yet humility is her style
As she bridges hostile nations with her genius guile
She can move mountains even arrest the flow of water
As mighty dams are conceived with a signature on paper
She is a goddess on earth scripting crossroads of fate
Even painting in the murals of the psyche as words translate
She is the mistress of education as legends are made
As dreamers flock to empyrean fields that never do fade
The transcendence of words in the corridors of time
As scripted are chronologies of deed in words engraved in time
As a lowly warrior fashions her destiny on scroll
Man basks as the master of her relentless soul
