Free Publicity Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Free Publicity

There is no business,
Like one's own business.
To know that business,
Alone to condone.
Can eventually lead,
Successfully on the road...
Towards accomplishment.

However...
There are noses on that road.
Daring to stop all traffic.
Trespassing to perform,
Their nosey acts.
With attempts to delay,
Until to them it is revealed...
The importance,
Of one's business.
And not to assist.
But to gossip about it.

This to do is not one bit,
Appealing.
Or a request,
For others to volunteer...
Unsolicited time to waste.

Although...
One who remains focused,
On their own business.
Determined with it meant,
To accomplish.
Will stay and be prepared,
With several detours to take.
Hoping nosey noses,
Given options.
Find that one,
Most exaggerated...
The one that is gossiped about.

To leave one's business,
Left as it is.
To later be amused,
By what is heard to hear.
That has nothing to do,
What one has accomplished...
Successfully.
Without nosey noses,
All up in their business.

'Uh...
I thought you told us,
You were on your way...
To find a quiet place,
To create something new.
Only we would know about.'

'And...
That is still true!
You are the only ones,
Who know about it.'

'Oh.
So...
What was that something new,
You created? '

'Another way,
To get free publicity.'

'At 'our' expense? '

'Why should I pay,
For something given to me.
And...
It's free.
What sense does that make? '
