French Formal Gardening Poem by james watkin

French Formal Gardening

Nature, of its runaway habit
Redeemable as a park.
With quadrangles of gardening space
Best the wild grandeur of it replace!

Fern and foliage, the plainest, wiped
with the polished remark
Glassed round as in a display cabinet.
Where great ladies take sun and talk wet!

Yes, nature grows wild and spontaneous, a garden may be inspired by it but unlike it, it is manicured.
