Fresh Hickeys Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Fresh Hickeys

The truth to reveal.
And uncovered to discover it.
To have not been as faithful or devoted.
When deception quickly sends,
This to the mind.
And...
The light of resentment can not prevent.
What is to no longer,
Be cloaked in darkness to perceive it blinds.

Especially in one bed,
One shares.
When sighs are released,

A lover to smother with hugs and kisses.
And bare toes to rub with this to miss.
Now has soiled that passion completely.
When another's secret touches.
With fresh left hickeys in places,
No excuses can erase.
Has a way to keep deflated,
That love to feel or kept to hold.
Leaving the heart and toes to freeze cold.

"What's the matter, boo? "

-Don't boo me, boo.
Where did you get,
Those hickeys on your neck? -

"Oh.
Those?
You won't believe this but...
They are not hickeys."

-What are they?
Mosquito bites? -

"Yes! Exactly.
And this mosquito kept on biting."

-Boo? Who do you think you're talking to.
It is just the beginning of Spring.-

"I thought the same thing too!
But this mosquito must have been,
One of those independent ones.
Because the lips on it,
I have never seen that big."
