G R E E D Poem by Kishore Kumar Das

G R E E D

Greed, the omnipresent demon
rampant everywhere
at every phase of life
greed for food
clothes
money
and all associated luxuries
greed only invites miseries
apart from greed for materials
non-materials no less important
greed for love leads to attachment
greed for recognition
for dreaming high
for power
greed to execute many jobs at a time
to complete the work although heavy
'greed' means desire for excess
which is always bad
greed for anger creates huge damage
greed for impatience spoils the broth
comparison with others promotes greed
competition justifies greed
compulsion for fame multiplies greed
awareness of these checks greed
self-discipline, the antidote to greed
a produce of wisdom and experience
Defeat greed with self-discipline.
