Glory Be Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Glory Be

Glory be for poetry.
For the hidden mystery
That tempts some of us
To sit and think
To scribble and blink
And then rework
A word, a couplet, a stanza.

Glory be for the bravery
That poets show
When they share their work,
Whether with the world or their wives,
Well aware that very few will care
How much of their inner lives they have bared.

Glory be for the humanity
That poets protect
When they remind us of our sacred selves
That dwell deep below the flow
Of the detritus that passes for knowledge
In the internet / corporate / news cycle
Charybdis that keeps us paddling
At its edges forever.

Glory be for the peace they offer
Like a wreath of laurel
In words that weave together
All people for all times
In our shared instinct for meter and rhyme.
