Go Ahead Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Go Ahead

Lead me into the woods.
Leave me there after dark.
With no glowing stones
Or hungry crumbs
And there I will make my home.

Lead me into the cave.
Lose me in its maze
With no torch
With no lantern
And I will learn to thrive in the dark.

Lead me into the desert.
Desert me in the dunes.
With no camel
With no mule
And I will wander free on my own feet.

Place me in danger
And I will adapt.
Take away my bearings
And I will draw my own map.
Forsake my trust
And I will forge new bonds.

I will never be held prisoner
By my love for one man
So stay if you please
Go if you choose
Either way, I am,
As I have always been,
Content.
