Goodbye Poem by Jo Elliott

Goodbye

I've done a lot of thinking
and I have now concluded,
in your life,
I know deep down
that I am not included.

You want me just to fit in
when it fits in with your time
and if I dare to moan
I've then
committed a heinous crime.

Well, now that I have realised this,
the hurt I felt has gone
and though you know my love for you
you feel that it is wrong;
because of the feelings
that you have
yet through fear
you've come to hide,
I can now continue with my life
not right by your side.

I have no wish to carry you
and be tested day by day
for all the things that people have done
to hurt you on your way.

If you cannot just love me,
this is no fault of mine,
understand that through all your flaws
my love continues to shine.

I know you can't accept this,
no matter what I say,
instead
you do your very best
to destroy it in every way.

Well,
destroy it if you must,
you will not destroy me,
times have changed and I am now
the person I was meant to be.

I may let you know when there are things to know,
perceive this how you will,
think the bad things all you want,
it's our love you'll eventually kill.

If this is how you want it,
this decision is yours to make
and all I see is a separate path
that we are destined to take.

I'd like so much to walk along
with you at the side of me,
yet it seems to me
and looking more and more
like
this will never be.

So along my path I will walk
with whoever will be there,
one thing's for sure it will only be
with people who really care.

Those who can't be bothered
or those who live a lie
will fall along the wayside
and tears for them I'll cry.

Then once the pain has disappeared
and made way for just sorrow,
I'll wake up each day and carry on
and look forward to each tomorrow.
