Grass Or Bamboo? Poem by Freeyad Ibrahim

Grass Or Bamboo?

by Freeyad Ibrahim

People who live in luxury get depressive, true
If they look relieved, this is superficial, untrue
They swing across the road like an old vehicle
Tilting vehemently, slide sideways, slew
They might go all kinds of mental disorders through,
That is to monotonous daily routine due
And all catastrophic news they chew
Those who are rich and happy are few
On the contrary to people who live simply
They have got no time for the outside world
They attend just to themselves, carefree in curfew
or Waterloo
Or others they think only of food, and drink
Just with a full stomach, they get through
Clean water they need, they seek no grilled meat
They need, no fried fish, nor a Luxurious barbecue
Or a barrel beer, just a loaf of bread, old or new
They see the world with other different eyes
Give them a punch, or a smile all the same,
They spring like an Australian kangaroo
Give them a friendly, or a hostile look,
maybe they laugh or grow angry with you
Life made them careless, somersaulted in view
They dream of a bed, of a roof, a ceiling, too
Pray to God to get their dreams come true
No ambitions, no star or cinema singers,
They sleep sound, if once got awoken,
they are back to sleep, effortlessly, anew
How Fortunate The Man With None,
Words of Shakespeare, to renew
Satisfied, no inclination to appear on a TV interview
Think only of God, almighty, not to conquer them Not to subdue
How many richly attired and shiny clothed are miserable
How many people in tatters are lucky, without shoe
The difference between a simple unserious unbreakable person
and a serious, hard and breakable person
Is like the difference between a flexible patch of the grass,
And the steel -like inflexible bushes of bamboo?
