Grandma's always cleaning her grout
she's not my grandma
and I don't know where she belongs
But I keep getting updates and ads
some dressed up
as public service announcements
explaining
wanting me to know
that grandma's cleaning her grout
She has tricks, traditional ways
ALL NEW cleansers--all guaranteed
to clean up the environment
while spanking up the grout
She seems very nice
A happy person
who even winks at me
At times I experience her stern side
the evil eye
but only at times
Maybe she thinks I ought to be cleaning
some grout?
This morning grandma
showed up
yet again, smiling, happy
Right beside her was a PSA that reminded us
of duck and cover
Don't ask how someone knows
we may need to duck and cover
just accept it may be
something we must do
Won't someone tell grandma?
For the sake of the grout.
Wow--It took me a while to understand your poem with its underlying humour. Bri's comment also helped me to understand this 'Grout /Great Expectation'.
I pasted two comments about what Duck and Cover is to be used for, but the two comments are not next to each other, below.
I think you mixing grandma with PSA is an attempt by you at humor, and it worked....after I reread the last six lines. .
A poet's note would have been nice. It's a Great title a la Charles Dickens (1812-1870) . 'PSA' = public service announcement. .
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
Well, M.J, you've started my day off to a great start. This poem is absolutely enjoyable sarcasm at its very best! And even grandma would a positive say in that. Keep them coming, my friend!
So much appreciated. Thanks, Richard!
