I don't believe in unicorns,
but, the horses are most beautiful,
compared to cows and pigs,
and most domestic livestock,
- - - horses are the best!
Turkey's are renowned for being stupid,
- - - as if chickens had some reputation
of intelligence,
we steal their eggs damn near daily,
and because they have no young,
... they try again!
While we remain as thieves,
on and on it goes - - -
and they never seem to understand,
that if they just stopped the laying,
we might stop the thievery!
- - - of course, then we would just eat them!
I think that the dumbest of all of the animals,
is the one that we love the most...
... the one that we attribute the most intelligence to,
for whatever reason,
... the one that destroys it's own environment,
by over - population, and pollution.
It's not the unicorn or horse,
not the chicken or the pig,
... it is the one that rules the planet,
would you care to take a guess! ! !
Excellent point Barry...you don't see cows polluting the planet...(well...not intentionally anyway...) Hugs, Dee
It's early in the morning and I just came to read some poetry and I find myself taking part in a quiz. Hard to think because it's so warm in here, I'm heating twenty gallons of water so as I can shower and shave or, maybe it the smoke from my sixth attempt at making toast that's clouding my vision..... nope, I give up.... whats the answer! !
Too true Barry. We make much of our humanity and yet, in the final analysis, we're not as far removed from the rest of the farmyard as we like to believe.

As an animal lover, I loved your poem. I do have hope for us humans though. I do see lots of us people trying to change, so I haven't given up on people yet. Sincerely, Connie Webb
