Dense clusters of stars gather eerily
In night's dominion. The moon's spectral light
Spreads knowingly across the land and sea.
It tempts us to forget diurnal time,
And embrace cold realms of dark mysteries.
The owl's hoots and the flapping of bats' wings
Point to that which is crooked and surreal.
For soon a myriad terrible things,
Will emerge from the shadows and gravestones,
And on to the streets. If you listen closely,
You will begin to hear their chilling moans.
Sordid nightmares will then replace sweet dreams!

Nicely well written and nice and eerie Dominic. It's clever also for you leave it hanging there left to the reader's imagination to fill in the forthcoming darkness or gaps. Five Jack O' Lanterns shining and hypnotic stars and thank you for writing and sharing your Halloween poem and thoughts. Take care.
Thanks Shaun. I enjoyed composing this one. It's nice to get into the scary mood of Halloween.I guess it's Bonfire Night next and then Christmas..lots of ideas for new poems no doubt! Do you reckon Bojo will be Santa Claus this year with Cummings as his chief elf? I expect they will be constructing and delivering useless presents for everyone this year...even Scrooge (before his radical change of heart) would be embarrased by them
