Hang Out There Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Hang Out There

Don't look at those dark clouds above
which will bring rain of disgust upon you;
don't ask for that avalanche to roll
which will crush the goodness of hope within you,
don't search for enemies to fight
which will invite destruction of your own peace;
the world is yours today
but it will belong to those who will live on
after we disperse with time and age;
hang out there like a monkey on a tree
hang out there like a chameleon on the wall
hang out there like a rainbow in the sky
hang out there, anywhere on this earth
with tolerance, dignity and gentleness
for you are here to eat, drink and survive
only till your spine can hold you upright;
roll yourself in hues of endless colors
laugh like you have seen an ant speaking
walk like you have been that exhausted tortoise
talk like you have been elected as a President
shout like you have been picked by an octopus
scream like you have been carried away by floodwaters
cry like you have been beaten by a dozen schoolkids;
do everything to live and believe in God's Will
do everything with steadiness and humbleness
do everything to hang out in this world
with dignity and zeal, with sincerity and thrill;
do everything to hang out in this world
before those steps of life abandon your feet
and deliver you in a slumber
never to wake up again
never to hang out in your streets again
never to love and be loved again.
