Happy Birthday Ghana 62 years free
Since 1957, you have had your Liberty.
Mining gold, harvesting cocoa, and salt,
Ghana was striving to take care of self.
Britain came in and colonized
to claim their stake in the wealth.

Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark, Germany
all sought the Gold Coast to prosper their lands But Ghana's name means 'Warrior King'
so the president there had a different plan.
1957, Pres. Kwame Nikrumah said it best,
'Independence for Ghana is not good.
until there is independence for the rest.'

South of the Sahara, you were the first to break the chain
By the mid 1960's, other African countries did the same.
Independent, out of clutches that bound;
able to move forward and break new ground
62 years and counting to make your own way.
