Harmony Must Prevail Poem by Prem Nizar Hameed

Harmony Must Prevail

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Gandhi ji was born in Porbandar
Porbandar is in Gujarat
Gujarat is in India
India is my great nation
Nation of manifold religions and cultures
Cultures that spread in different UTs* and states
States and UTs have various languages
Languages spoken by differently dressed people
People of India call him the father of the nation
Nation upholds the Indian Constitution
Constitution makes eligible people elect the lawmakers
Lawmakers have different ideologies
Ideologies are linked with partisan politics
Politics is connected with castes and religions
Religions and castes run the vote bank politics
Politics carves out good and bad politicians
Politicians then come to divide and rule the people
People remember that old colonial strategy
Strategy of such kind does not belong to Gandhi,
Gandhi ji was an advocate of peace and harmony
Harmony must prevail, sabko sanmati de bhagvan,

*Union Territories
