Have You Ever? - Poem by Ashley D. Mungroo

Have you ever felt that type of sadness,
where you felt it moving down your throat,
in a substantial lump?

Have you ever felt it sink down into your lungs,
suffocating you, depriving you of that much needed oxygen?

Have you ever felt it in your stomach,
making you uneasy and giddy?

You can't eat, can't sleep,
It takes over you entire body,
Engulfing you from the inside out.

It kills all your emotions,
A bloody target placed on your heart,
Aiming as if its life depended on it.

Have you ever felt your soul draining out from your eyes,
All your joy just pouring out of you?

Have you ever?
Have you ever given up so easily that you just can't go on, if you step you'll stumble?

Have you ever?
Have you ever prayed that you just won't pick that razor up?

Have you ever?
Have you ever found that your only escape is that bottle, bitter but so sweet?

Running down your throat, pushing sadness aside only for a moment.

Have you ever..
