He Loves Me Not. Poem by Edwin Owade

He Loves Me Not.

There he is the omniscient,
A guru of the current and the ancient,
Graduate of linguistics from the mighty kibabii,
Mannerism of the queens' land from looks to accent of ‘'bees''
Scorns me of not being on Facebook and ignorant of books,
'What's up! ' he shouts while on WhatsApp chatting with fellow crooks,
Son of the soil loves me not.

There he is the omnipresent,
I hear he is the chairman of mzinga committee,
Vicious circle of viscous booze and light rum a substitute to tea,
On the run always to attend to this and that meeting,
Never spends time and dime at home, always beefing,
The bull of the homestead, grazes away instead.
Son of the land loves me not.

There he is the omnipotent,
He prefers kabibi a comrade from kibabii,
She is new, not old me,
Follower of culture and superstition, a traditional woman.
Selfie and Wi-Fi, a lover of all this fun,
Why despise me Dickson?
Why scorn the tradition?
Why, Why, Why?
I deserve respect, love and peace,
Remember ignorance is bliss,
Truly,
Son of my mother loves me not.
