If I Must Write. Poem by Edwin Owade

If I Must Write.

Rating: 4.0

If I must write,
Let it be an ode canvassed in black and white,
Free from farce and stylistically free verse,
Paragon of virtue in its pithy and terse,
Full of imagery and symbolism devoid of hyperbole,
Blended with irony and metaphor a concoction kinda sole,

If I must write,
Let it be a voice that echoes the wrong and right,
A mouthpiece of the unspoken, taboo, and obscene,
Shed light on the unjust, reality, and the unseen,
Through the mighty pen,
Let it be a master stroke of pain,

If I must write,
Let it be a piece that heals and unites,
A bridge that connects the poor and the rich,
Hope to the oppressed and light to the breach,
Discussant to commoners, nondescript to a critic,
All these may relate and in unison give it a tick,
If I must write,
Let it be loved and make history in its own right,
Be cherished and remembered by both the aged and young,
Inspire and change the world in an instant bang,
With its content, style, and form shine like a star so bright,
But only if I must write.
