Head Bobbing Nodders Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Head Bobbing Nodders

As if to agree.
Collectively.
To words heard preached.
And delivered passionately from a sermon,
A gifted minister emphasizes.
With a slow then applied increasing heat.
Hoping to rise head bobbing nodders,
Right out of their seats.
With words to teach.
How their lives to live would be enriched.
If they understood The Word.
Not to imitate to pretend.
But felt what they hear to comprehend.
However,
Listening for many...
Still have them sitting on a fence.
In fear to feel them meant,
May make a difference in their lives.
Yet inside churches they agree,
To leave behind their opinionated minds.
But seem not able to relieve,
The satisfaction they get...
From their addiction of being hypocrites.
That most head bobbing nodders seem to be.
Willing to stay affixed,
To going through the motions.
As if puppets pulled,
By invisible.
Yet approving religious strings.
