Heifetz said there were two reasons why
he’d sometimes play some modern music. One:
he hoped that the composer wouldn’t try
composing more, which for him wasn’t fun.
Two, he said that playing music he
disliked a lot helped him appreciate
far more all Beethoven. His repartee,
just like his violin technique, was great.
Heifetz said there were two reasons why he played modern music. First to discourage composers from writing any more. Secondly, to make himself realize how much he loved Beethoven.
