Here We Stand (A Quiet Protest) Poem by David Harris

Here We Stand (A Quiet Protest)

Here we stand among the millions
who want nothing more than to live
a life without fears of war or poverty,
yet we elect leaders who show us only both
with no recoil to their souls.
They stand and gloat with their taxes
not caring for the food for you and I.
Dismissing the lingering deaths
from battlegrounds in far off lands
and ignoring the voices of those
who put them where they are.
