High In The Night Sky Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

High In The Night Sky

Rating: 5.0

My young daughter and I were about to be witnesses
To an amazing event that was deemed to be very rare
We carried soft blankets into the stillness of the night
The warmth of the day had grayed into calm cool air

Finding a wide space free of overhanging tree branches
Spreading blankets upon a patch of grass carpeted ground
Keen eyes searched the limits of the upper stratosphere
Lying down and waiting for a spectacular sighting to be found

I remember the evening sky… as though it was yesterday
Hours lengthened… then we saw a display of falling meteors
Glistening white jewels ignited and streaked across black velvet
Like faceted diamonds burning into extinction as they explored

A blazing trail followed… marking each spontaneous path
Blazing through the atmosphere with shimmering streamers
Lasting only seconds… then disappearing into empty eternity
A dazzling phenomena of plummeting silent screamers
