Highest Bidder Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Highest Bidder

There is a glow in your eyes
Your attention is on the prize
More competition…
Adds incentive for acquisition

What is your ultimate limit?
How high will you commit?
Knowing that the addition
Will complete your mission

Eagerness is intensifying
To this there is no denying
The pledge is again raised
Breathless…you reappraise

Are you willing to relinquish
Future pay for this wish?
Offering your last stretching bid
Baffled by what you just did

A silent moment…then a tremor
Hearing the echo of a shutting door
Oh no! You are not the winner…
Consolation; you can still afford dinner
