Homeless - In Our Minds Poem by louis rams

we are the homeless in our minds
we search the avenues of our times
which way do we go? what should I do?
homelessness is something I never knew
just like the homeless on the street we search
for something to eat.
some thing to nourish our inner soul for this is
not where i belong.
we feel the pains - the hot, the cold and search
the words that must be told.
our minds become like an hour glass
how much longer will it last?
we have become homeless in our minds
will we find the words in the nick of time?
how do we soften the blows which are yet to come
even if the life we save is just one.
we must gather our thoughts and unite
this is the beginning of a long hard fight.
