Hot Summer's Day Poem by Stanley Coffin

Hot Summer's Day

The end of a hot summers day,
You ease yourself into the old wooden rocking chair that's showing signs of decay,
An old bottle of scotch with a little ice and dry,
A cool sea breeze, a porch and an afternoon sky,
On the wind the palm trees gently sway,
As the scent of the sea drifts tantalisingly your way,
You can taste the salt on your lips
as off into the distance you stare,
You relax and unwind and close your eyes as you leave your day behind,
No thoughts needed no words spoken save for the rustling of the wind and trees the silence it remains unbroken,
This is your paradise and your time to be as you allow this moment to consume you completely,
No money nor commitment required just open your eyes and take in your surrounds,
For this is for free,
And the only thought that breaks through is if it were possible for this moment to become your eternity.
