How Can I Say I Love You? - Poem by Josh Burnett

Were you ever there when I needed you the most?
Did you ever keep me warm when I was cold?
When I felt alone were you ever so close?
Were you ever mine to hold?
Or just in my thoughts like a ghost?

How can I say I love you,
When you weren't there for me?
How can I say I love you,
When you wouldn't let us be?
How can I say I love you,
When you blinded me more than I could see?
How can I say I love you?

When I waited by the phone did you ever call?
When I was down did you ever help me crawl?
Was you the one to help me fall?
When I felt small did you help me stand tall?
Didn't you just beat me further back when I was against the wall?

How can I say I love you,
When you weren't there for me?
How can I say I love you,
When you wouldn't let us be?
How can I say I love you,
When you blinded me more than I could see?
How can I say I love you?

When the tears fell,
Did you make me feel well?
When I felt locked in a cell,
Did you crack that shell?

How can I say I love you,
When you weren't there for me?
How can I say I love you,
When you wouldn't let us be?
How can I say I love you,
When you blinded me more than I could see?
How can I say I love you?
