How Come Some People Poem by Francis Duggan

How Come Some People

How come some people who come by power become autocratic
and the power at their disposal abuse
And punish those who to them are different because they do not share their views
From past mistakes we have not learned and history repeats itself they say
Some of those in power lack in compassion and respect to those different don't pay.

Human history is full of dictators people not worthy to mention by name
People guilty of grave crimes against humanity they lived and they died in their shame
Responsible for the deaths of millions of people and millions of them lived in fear
And today we still have tyrannical leaders and bad stories of them we do hear.

Human history is full of cruel leaders people who lacked in empathy
For those to them they saw as different they did not show any sympathy
And for their crimes they went unpunished for their victims families no justice there
But life can have it's heavy crosses and life it is not always fair.

How come some people who come by power use their power in a destructive way?
On those different and the unprotected they do seem happy for to prey
In unmarked graves millions of their victims piled on top of each other lay
And history does repeat itself a wise one was once known to say.
