I always wished to live in divine love and Zikr,
A million times each time I wake
From my brief neglectful sleep.
One day, as I sat by the brook,
A mysterious inspiration halted my thoughts,
Away from family traditions and societal norms,
That dictated who I should be.
It steered me towards contemplation
Of who and what I should truly strive to be.
Ever since, I yearn for a heart,
Beautiful, filled with peace and love for all,
A calm, tranquil, awakened soul.
I seek the eternal light within,
Though a spark lives in us all,
I crave more and more.
I wish to be like I once was,
When angels questioned my creation,
Crowned as the Caliph divine,
With full authority.
I've been absent from there,
Seen only in scriptures.
One day, I hope
My divine reflection is restored,
Awfully stunning, breathtaking,
With long, marvelous towers
Of paradise in sight, giant and strong.
I strive to become one whom God desires.
I believe every human harbors divinity,
Our true essence,
With golden lines coating our bodies
Of water and clay,
Coating our existence like a sunset,
Too beautiful to be real,
Too beautiful to be seen.
I wish my exterior matched fully
This beauty and truth.
But I am as God wills me to be.
I've pondered the prophets' fortune,
Their essence and divine wisdom.
I envy, I crave
Such sacred knowledge.
God, my true essence, I love Thee.
Thy beautiful music plays for me,
I yearn to hear Thy true word constantly,
To see it inscribed
On my heart's pages in golden letters.
I fear to die without Thy light,
Cascading over me.
Without Thee,
I cannot cross
The line between this life and next.
I love Thee like no other.
I will love Thee forever.
Even when I lie
On the floor of a poorly lit room,
Thy light enveloping my eternal soul.
The only thing I live for,
The only thing I long for,
The only thing I've learned to love:
Thou and I, together as one.
