What am I? ?
Black I am, yes I am proud
I'll stand on a mountain and scream it aloud
I love my smooth, soft and velvety face,
Proud I am, to belong to a strong race.
Brown am I, kinda copper or caramel
What shade exactly, can't really tell,
Hazelnut I think or a bit on the tan side
My true skin color I should never want to hide.
My epidermis looks pale and clear,
Blood an veins, I can see what goes on in there,
You can say I almost look white,
Ivory and clean, my pigment is so light.
So now my friend you can see
I can be whoever I want to be,
What I look like though
Was chosen way before I'd know,
What future God has in store for me,
I choose to live my life being free. :)
I love this amazing poem! ! It is a wonderful depiction of the diversity that each one of us truly embodies, created by God's intricate design which goes much deeper that the alleged color of our skin... We are so much more than what meets the eye! ! If only ignorance would take the time to look beyond the cover of the book... You're a wonderful poetess, Atasha! Thanks for sharing! Love the graphic! !
