I Am Not That Man Poem by Randy McClave

I Am Not That Man

I want to make you happy
If I truly can,
But, I don't think that I'm able to
Because there is another man.
He is always in your thoughts
And also in your texts,
What else am I too think or do
He of course is your ex.
You tell all that we are not a couple
But, you tell me that we are,
I hate to lie to anyone especially in church
So, you and I just argue and spar.
You always seemingly talk about him
And your unworn wedding dress,
What else am I to truly think
Who do you want and trying to impress.
He doesn't know anything about us
And I know all about him,
I am just your friend and of course your coach
Hanging outside on a limb.
I have met your family and your friends
When they all came over to my house,
At your ex's you shared the very same bed
In my home with you, I sleep solitude on my couch.
I wanted us to have a future together
That of course was my only plan,
But, then while I listen and watched you;
I am not that man.
