I Awoke And Saw My Life Poem by Kimberly Burnham

I Awoke And Saw My Life

Oh my love
remember when we awoke
together in love
with so much joy and pleasure
in the physical comfort
of each other

Remember getting the news
of how healthy and long our life
together would be

Remember celebrating
with delicious spicy Mexican food
the next day bicycling
on a sunny cool day

Remember the power
of love and pleasure
manifested in the happiness
of all those around us
sharing in our good fortune
making their own pleasures

Remember the trips
romantic getaways to hot springs
enlightening experiences
of learning and leaning in
listening, travel with the kids
seeing the wonders
of the universe through their eyes

Remember all my love
for it and so much
passion for life
has come
for you and me

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I waited with a friend over a very long weekend as she wondered whether the tests would come back positive for breast cancer. I started a series of poems called Remembering the Future. I wanted a way to put positive energy into the waiting and wondering. The tests were negative and we breathed a sign of relief. None of us can predict the future so why not imagine a wonderful one. This poem was originally published in the monthly series Year Of The Poet, March,2014 Edition.

So much we humans take for granted until it is threatened, and yeah...I'm kinda familiar with that Year Of The Poet series myself these days...
