I Cry. Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

I Cry.

Rating: 4.0

Quietly sitting here
I cry for our earth
Trees cry blood red sap
The wind cries
Full of razor sharp dust
The wet sea weeps
Tears of plastic
What are we doing
Why have we turned
To atrocious monsters
Full of destruction
Honestly I wish a great plague
Would sneak up and
Obliterate half of humanity
It is the only slender chance
Mother Earth has of surviving
Our planet once green
Once giving all life
Is fighting desperately for
Survival and dignity
Our forests are nearly gone
Our green places are shrinking
Extinction of much
Is at hand now
The mass of humanity
Covers the earth
Like molten lava
Like a deadly black pox
Sweeping all from its path
And I cannot say that
It is time to correct
All too sadly that time
Has long passed.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Do you ever sit and look at insects? Millions and millions
Far more than humans. But funny eh…they don't seem to punish
the earth.. I watch them a lot these days.
