I Have Two Lovers Poem by moon batchelder

I Have Two Lovers

Rating: 4.5

i have two lovers;
one i choose
and one that chooses me,
and both at once, my heart and soul possess.
i was betrothed at birth
to both,
by singular decree.
but one delays the others sweet caress.

one came to claim his bride
at once.
one, patient, waiting still
abides decisions, bound by promises.
one holds me fast,
one draws me near
and both, despite my will.
tho neither am i able to resist.

one day, we three
will share one bed,
as twice we have before.
then, finished with my first indentiture,
one day i'll let my first love go
and love the second more,
tho both were but a pleasure to endure.

(note: the lovers are life and death)

you had me fooled for a moment there....it's true...embrace life and embrace death or they won't give you rest!
