I Imagine A Day Poem by Andrea Lynn

I Imagine A Day

I imagine a day
Where I will get up with a grin
When it will not take a huge effort
To lift up my chin

I can see a day
Where I can leave for good
To pursue something better
As I always said I would

I want so much
To never return
But do it in a way
That the bridge remains unburned

When things of joy
Become obligations
Even reassurance
Can fail as consolation

The light at the end
Of the tunnel seems so far
Making motivation difficult
Pushing to continue raising the bar

I weigh constantly
The costs of all options
I know which choice is right
Though it is a foul one

To have such fine things
Live in supposed luxury
While the debt incurred
Brings mostly misery

I continue to look ahead
To a brighter tomorrow
One that maybe for once
Won't bring me sorrow.
