I Imagine Him Poem by Mohammad Younus

I Imagine Him

I imagine him,
stretching out his arms and laughing
on his throne in his darbar,
where the sky and earth meet,
granting audience to his seekers.
Steadily, he whispers songs of love
to those yearning for his light
in the early hours of dawn.
Before the sun had risen, I arrived
at the doors of his darbar,
pulling the chain of his bell,
my gaze fixed on the door,
waiting for the gatekeeper to admit me.
My heart, on the verge of bursting,
as he beckoned me in.
To see him within the mirror of my true self—
a moment both gripping and sublime,
challenging to sit beside him in his presence.
I experienced him as a surrounding sound,
reverberating through the silence,
touching my body and soul.
