I'm Not A Racist, She Said Poem by Randy McClave

I'm Not A Racist, She Said

I'm not a racist she once said
As we sat together and broke bread,
Just because I am black and you are white
Doesn't mean that we can't enjoy our meal with delight.
For the umpteenth time again I will say
I will not date any caucasian anytime or any day,
I like you and other caucasians, but only as friends
And to that fact of mine I won't ever make amends.
I was taught to never date a white man
Even if he is kind and pleasant with a very dark tan,
My thoughts about dating your type will never deter
A white man over a black man I just do not prefer.
Though you have taken me out to eat
And you've loaned me money to help make ends meet,
I enjoyed it when we have went out to dine
Conversation with you was always uplifting and fine.
But, one thing I have screamed and have continuously shouted
Me dating you, or any white male is positively doubted,
I'm not a racist and caucasians I do not hate
But, a white man, I might use, but him I will not ever date.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is based on me and a true story. I met this ebony woman at work, she had a very pretty and nice smile, so we started talking and texting and such, then when she needed help from me I was there, when she texted or called me to go out to eat we did. And once she needed some banking help, her bank wouldn't cash a 3rd party check she got, so she went to my bank I talked to my friend the VP there and they cashed it, the manager of the bank wouldn't cash the 3rd party check, but my friend overrode her decision. My ebony friend said the white woman wouldn't cash her check because she was black, I said no it's because you don't bank here and it's a high amounted 3rd party check. Following week we went out to eat, and I said to her, "you're a great date" then she said to me almost as scream so everyone could here, "we never dated, we're just friends, I don't date caucasians", she later texted that sentiment to me as well.
