I'm In Ukraine Now Poem by Randy McClave

I'm In Ukraine Now

Mama, I'm in Ukraine now
I don't think that I will speak to you anymore,
I was told that we were here for military exercises
But, instead we were lied to, we are here for all out war.
We are bombing unprotected cities everywhere
We were told that that they would wantonly welcome us,
Mama this is so horrible and bad
They now call us fascists with every word that they cuss.
Unarmed citizens are falling under our armored vehicles
They're not allowing us to go around or pass,
Mama, I am so very scared and constantly frightened
As our vehicles run out of road, and gas.
Please tell dad that I am not a murderer or a fascist
And I don't know what else that I can do or say,
I just want to raise up my hands and surrender with guilt
Then to God for forgiveness, I will pray.
I can't give you an address to send me a parcel
I wish to end and not to carry on my military vow,
Mama, I'm so worried and I'm constantly sick and sad
Because Mama, I'm in Ukraine now.
