I'M Not Your Girl Poem by Paula Glynn

I'M Not Your Girl

I'm sorry, but I'm not your girl,
I don't love you the way you want,
I care for you, but we are wrong for each other,
I know we went on many trips together,
Even when it was winter, cold and rainy,
And I remember us going to the funfair:
That was fun and we enjoyed the summer sun,
Playing scrabble and card games,
And you would become tanned from walking through town,
I truly miss those days, but we are better off apart,
I simply don't belong to your heart,
I belong in my own head, even if I could read minds.

I used to live in a dark world before you came along,
And many poets have written about lost love,
But even when I am gone, you are not lost,
You are free to live your own life,
And find someone who is right for you,
And no matter what I may say or do,
You will be happy with some other girl.

I know it's sad, but don't cry,
Your heart will mend,
And I'll no longer have to pretend,
Because I can't hide it or fake it,
And I'd hurt you much worse if I lied to you,
So spread your wings and fly,
And realise you don't need to break down and cry.
