I Owe You Nothing: Fighter Tribute Poem by Paula Glynn

I Owe You Nothing: Fighter Tribute

As that old 1980's track goes
I owe you nothing
I am never the foolish puppet
I am the independent figurehead
You will never know or understand
You will never mould with your hands.

I make my own decisions and own mistakes
For that I know I must pay
But I also learn wisdom along the way
The world full of bad boys
The world full of bad girls
All waiting for weakness and vulnerability.

I owe you nothing
Regardless of what you falsely assume
With me having to breathe your air in a room
And you wait for the menacing moon
Nasty tales your supposed strength
Bonding with others over your fools.

I owe you nothing
I owe you no sympathy or respect
I owe you nothing out of my lottery winnings
I owe you none of my time
I owe you nothing from my mind
I owe you no friendship or forgiveness.

My problems are my own
My problems are none of your inquiries
My problems never concern you
My problems you are never part of
My problems throughout my life
Only I am aware of: I am none of your business.

I may be weak and emotional
But I owe you nothing
You have to deal with your issues:
So deal with them without me
My words from a whisper to a shout
And I am proud of what I'm about.
