I Replaced My Heart With A Smart Phone Poem by Matthew Holloway

I Replaced My Heart With A Smart Phone

Fingers claw at the chest
nails drawing blood from the skin
bones crack, snap, separate
finally able to grasp and remove it
the beating organic heart
cast to the bin, unwanted, outdated
replaced by technology, automated emotion
the algorithms of a new life and world
the smart social calculation
rather than seek and dream of love
rather than grow, develop, nurture
just instead reach out for like, love, reaction
reach out for acknowledgment
reach out to be seen, heard, understood
to be accepted into this new world
where a heart is but an icon
on a list of sub human interaction
now like another program
without heart or feeling
I await to see if I can be
liked, followed
I wait for the comment below
