I sit at my desk and think of stories that have been;
of the Fairy-tales I read ere I was ten.
Of princesses, silver river daughters and dragon lore;
of unlikely heroes and fat hobbits who wanted just a bit more!
Of little dogs turned to toys, then looking for their little boys, and the man in the moon
coming down for another drink, I'm afraid to say too soon!
Of boys who were wizards, and wolves who survived blizzards;
and dwarves looking for gold, in the tombs the dragons had sizzled!
Of little bears, and their animal friends, and Winnie the Pooh!
The tiger, the pig, and the donkey, just to name a few!
As I grew older, my tastes matured, and scholarly tales I much more preferred;
the stories of Kings and Princes of my own world,
of knights beneath banners that once unfurled.
These stories of Fairy have helped me and taught me to see;
taught me to look for what is good, tender, and lovely!
For what better teachers will instruct you to love, to be kind;
than the eager souls of Fairy, by poets and professors designed?
Brilliantly conveyed and presented with beautiful poetic expressions and images that fuel the mind of a reader to read fairy tales books.
A very perceptive, meaningful and wonderful poem. Books hold power far beyond entertainment like fairy tales. They can serve as tools to educate children and adults the important virtues that help mold great character and at the same time a gateway to knowledge beneficial in life.
