I Stand Before You Poem by Abubakar Ahmed Imam

I Stand Before You

I stand before you!
My eyes are crimson,
So are yours.
We are torn
By the pain of betrayal.

Generous tears
Trace the tracks of our faces
As, in silence, we recall
What we had,
What we lost.

In silence, we recall,
They were yours and mine;
The azure of the skies,
The peace of the fields,
The quiet of the streams…

But, our greed
Devoured our conscience
We fall apart
Like dry leaves
On a hurricane day.

Today, we sip
The venom of hate
And smite each other
In the dark course
Of our ungodly hearts.

I stand before you!
Together we choke
On the smoke in the skies,
The asps in the fields,
And the blood in the streams.

Very beautiful pictures you paint with this poem of time past and present though all of it is not pleasant, its the sorta poem that bridges the old and new and makes lives. That makes us leave the past behind and start a new life!
