I've Got A Belly Poem by Gary James Smith

I've Got A Belly

A little something on the lighter side...food for thought...or in this case thought for food...ha ha...hope you enjoy...

I've Got A Belly

I've got a belly that says feed me
I'm trying to keep it quiet
Particularly since I'm overweight
Actually I should be on a diet
But a fridge and cupboards surround me
There's food from wall to wall
Just when I think I'm on the mend
The hunger pains start their call

I don't know how it kick starts
But whamo! There it goes
My mind begins areeling
I can feel in my toes
My feet start exercising
They know the pattern well
Out of the livingroom into the kitchen
What shall I eat pray tell

I attempt to crush this feeling
So many thoughts begin to swirl.
Toast and jam or pancakes
The thought of it's a thrill
I have to immediately remind myself
And come quickly to my senses
Hey! I say.. what are you doing
Do away with all your pretenses

I have to take the bull by the horns
And take it to the mat
Otherwise I'll just grow and grow
And probably end up fat
Discipline..yes discipline
Yes that's the key I think
I know I should be swimming
But I feel I'm about to sink

I could give an answer that's sew sew
I can think of nothing better
Then to stitch my lips temporarily
Until I see I'm getting thinner
But no I'm not going to go that route
I'm going to go with something safer
Oh boy I just glanced on my way back to the living room
And I think I spied a chocolate wafer!
