I was asked why do I own a gun
Why do I enjoy to kill just for fun,
Why do I like to harm and escalate strife
And why do I enjoy to take a life.
Then I told them all this
Your thoughts about me you can just dismiss,
Though I might indeed have a foe or a rival
But, I do not own or want a gun or a rifle.
I was asked and questioned once again
This time why do I hate the color of different men,
Why do I think that I'm always right
Just because my skin color is white.
Then I told them in racism I do not hear or see
I am better than no one and no one is better than me,
I don't listen or believe in racist lies
We are all equal in God's all knowing eyes.
I was asked why I hated the needy and the poor
And how come I see them all as a sore,
Why don't I care if they suffer or die
And to help them why don't I ever care or try.
Then I told them I help both the poor and the needy
And to them I'm not hateful or selfish or greedy,
I see them all as my brothers and sisters
And like them I've suffered with hardships and blisters.
I was asked why I hated others from a different land
The Bible says with aliens be generous as you stand,
Why do I detest and hate them so
Why do I want to fill their life with sadness and woe.
I finally told them all I am not that way
I follow the teachings of the Lord Jesus everyday,
Yes, I told as strange as it sounds I am a republican
Strange as it sound, I am a born and true American.
