I Wont Pretend Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

I Wont Pretend

Don't you come to think it...
That I am going to be apologetic.
Don't you come to think it.
Don't you come to think it...
That you deserve from me an empathy.
Don't you come to think it or believe,
Your old tactics are attached to facts...
When truth is refused,
And frequently attacked.

Relationships should be about the benefit,
Of a sharing done and felt to know exist.
With no roles to play so someone can betray,
To purposely maneuver to have one's way.
Yet some do.
And some don't.
But I wont...
Play mind games for no apparent gain.
To push buttons for nothin'.

Yes some do.
Then some don't.
Although I wont,
Expect something from nothing...
To give up empathy and pretend.
I wont pretend.
Some do.
Some don't.
I wont...
Never again give in.
I wont pretend.
